Increase and optimize the use of co-products

Ambition

One of the key elements in a circular economy is adding value to residual flows. Livestock farming plays an important role in a circular economy because animals convert products unsuitable for human consumption into high-value products such as meat, milk and eggs.

Carefully selected suppliers from the food and beverages industry deliver co-products that we use to produce feed products for young animals. These co-products are not suitable for human consumption anymore, due to expiration dates or production errors. By using these co-products (the by-products from the food sector) for feed production, we contribute to a circular economy. Our ambition is to increase the use of co-products.

Action

Based on a commonly shared and clear definition of ‘co-products’, we establish the current percentage of co-products as part of the total raw material consumption of Denkavit. We then set challenging targets for 2030 to increase the use of co-products.

RESULTS

KPI: % co-products used in feed products of Denkavit for all species

Result 2022
Define co-products, determine current share and set ambition for 2030
Goal 2023
Increase the use of co-products
