Less plastic is fanastic!

Plastic is a material that can be polluting if not used in a circular recycling system. We aim to decrease our plastic use to the minimal amount necessary to protect our products and continuously look for new materials and reduction methods. Find out how Denkavit reduces and uses recycled plastic as a circular product.

More circular plastic

In many European countries, unrecycled plastic is slowly disappearing. The members of the European Union and the European Parliament agreed in 2020 to ban many single-use plastic products in the future. In 2021, the Netherlands has banned the use and sale of several plastic products. The goal is to stop the production and consumption of plastic waste that ends up in the oceans. Plastic contains toxic pollutants that can damage the environment and can cause soil, water and air pollution. Plastic can take hundreds or even thousands of years to break down, so overcoming the damage to the environment is very important. But used in the right way plastic can be a circular product.

Save plastic in our manufacturing process

As Denkavit we are aware of the importance of recycling and reducing plastic use. With our new designed bags for Nutrifeed, we save plastic in the manufacturing process. The thickness of plastic bags has changed. The plastic has changed from 60mu to 40mu thickness. Each bag saves approximately 20 grams of plastic. This is a saving of 33%, which results in a saving of 5676 kg of plastic per year. It also means that we have saved money by buying less plastic. Next, we are testing a new stretch film for pallet wrapping which is 10% thinner than the current film. The first tests are positive. This means that we could save 10% of the material and therefore approximately 5000 to 6000 kg of plastic per year as well. In addition to saving plastic and money, we save CO2 because there is less transport. It is an ecological, economical and responsible approach!

Use recycled plastic for stretch film

Another test was the use of 30% recycled plastic for the stretch film. This test was also successful, but the disadvantage was the non-transparent colour of the film. Denkavit continues the tests. We want to reduce our use of plastic and improve our supply of recycled materials. Responsible sourcing is a crucial topic for sustainable development!
